Avalanche of Goals: United Regains Prestige Against Liverpool

Sunday evening was full of dramatic moments in week 20 of the English Premier League, as an avalanche of goals defined entertainment in excess for football lovers. Manchester United had two recorded goals away from home against the tight league contenders “Liverpool”.

For Reuben Amorim who just took over the team late last year (2024), he has not been quite really out of the “rollercoaster” performance of the boys he met on arrival at old Trafford.

After the Red Devils suffered a 2 nil defeat to Newcastle United, Amorim made some statements regarding the poor form:

“Yeah, when you have these kinds of moments, especially in the big clubs, it’s really hard to turn things around, especially when you don’t have a lot of time to train the basics to cope with the difficult moments. We have to acknowledge our position, the way you see the league, everybody can win [against] everybody. So we have to win games and to focus on surviving.”
As the desire to do more keeps beckoning on both the players and Amorim himself, they had no option than to put in a competitive performance against the current league leaders, Liverpool FC. The thrilling encounter at Anfield almost had Manchester United snatch all three points, but were not just lucky after Harry Maguire failed to score a clear-cut big scoring opportunity at the last moments of the game.
Although Amorim was a bit impressed by what his boys put out against the quality Liverpool side, he also was a bit “Mad” at his side too, due to the fact that the top notch performance should have been crowned with a winning story. He also mentioned that if his men put out a consistent approach in both training sessions and live matches, more super performance will be inevitable.

“I want to see my team to play so much better, but I think the most important thing to address today is the mentality. And that is the key for everything. So today we were a different team, not because of the system, not because of the technical aspect of the game, the tactical aspect of the game, we faced the competition in the way that we’re supposed to face every day – training and match. It doesn’t matter the place, the opponent, we need to face every day like that.”………….. Amorim

The TenHag’s successor also spoke about the need for players to understand their playing role in the pitch, as this will help in terms of compatibility for productivity.

“I don’t want to use that, but of course, when you train, you understand better the way we play, the positioning, the characteristics of the team-mate, those things are really important. But I don’t want to use that today. Today is all about the focus when you are playing football, the focus on set pieces, the focus on passing the ball, not in the sloppy way but in the way that we can not lose one ball because in the other part of the pitch is Salah, is Diaz, so you don’t lose the ball. If you lose the ball in some parts of the pitch, you know you are going to suffer. If you have that mentality, you are a different team and I think that is clear.”…… Amorim
The transfer window just began in a bid to create a more formidable team that can help the Red Devils finish strong in this EPL season. Rumour has it that Amorim is seriously planning to lay off and bring in fresh legs that can help the team achieve something meaningful in this 2024/2024 Premier League campaign.
