UEFA 2024/2025 Club Competitions: The Financial Benefits

The UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, will resume for intriguing actions today. Last season, Real Madrid won the Champions league, Atalanta won the Europa, while Olympiacos defeated Fiorentina to win the last edition of the Conference League.
The competition is a very competitive one and this season will see 100 European Clubs battle it out. The UEFA Champions League will have 78 teams in the first stage, 57 for Europa, and 36 for Conference League.

Reward for Each of The Competition’s Participants

The UEFA Champions League: The UEFA Champions League is the first amongst all three as this is for teams that finish either as top four or five at the end of every season in all clubs across Europe. These countries include England, Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Greece, Azerbaijan, Belgium, France, etc.

In this edition, a whooping sum of €2.437 billon is fully pumped into the competition, with an increment of €0.407 billion from last season’s €2.03 billion. As a team, qualifying for the Champions League alone will automatically see you earn €15.7 million.

37.5% of the total pots which is €914 million which is split into a 60% and 40% share will be distributed. The 60% will be for group stage performance while 40% will go for the knock out stage performance.

For each win, a team will get €1.1 million, for a draw gotten in any match, a team will bag €550,000.
Any team that advances to the knockout phase will pocket €9.5 million for emerging as group winners, and €4.5 million for runners up of the group.

The 40% Sharing formula is done based on how much any team can last in the competition. In the knockout stage, round of 16 qualifiers will earn €9.5 million, quarter-finalist earns €10.5 million, and semi-finalist earns €12.5 million.
For the winner a sum of € 20 million is given, and second position €15 million.

Aside all these cash prizes, there are other bonuses that are additional to all those listed above. They are, bonuses based on number of appearances made through history by any of the team, and broadcasting rights together with viewings and sponsorships.

UEFA Europa League: For the Europa League, the total sum of money for the competition is €593.6 million. This total pool money is further subjected to a formula sharing of 40-30-30 percentage.

The 40% goes for group stage. For a group stage match, of either a win or a draw obtained, each team will earn €2.92 million, and a bonus of €1 million for those that will qualify for the knock out stage. On the knock out stage, 30% of the pool price will be distributed. €500,000 goes to the round of 32 qualifiers, €1.5 million for round of 16 qualifiers, €2.5 million for quarter-finalist, €4 million for semi-finalist, €4 million for runners up, and €8 million for the champion. A 30% share will be distributed to teams based on marketing grounds which includes broadcasting and other sponsorship.

Lastly, additional bonuses is given to clubs who will have their youth teams participating in the UEFA youth League competition, and historical performances for participating teams can also fetch money for them.

UEFA Europa Conference League: For the UECL, the total price money is €184 million. This edition will feature 40 teams and for each match played in the group stage, a win or a draw will fetch €1.1 million, and a sum of €500, 000 bonus will be given to those who advances to the knock out stage. For the knock out phase, €250,000 will be shared in round of 32, €500,000 for round of 16 qualifiers, €750,000 for quarter-finalist, €1 million for semi-finalist, €1 million for second position, and €2 million for the winner.
