On Tuesday, September 10th, Maiduguri and surrounding areas in Borno State were hit by devastating floods that claimed the lives of at least 30 people and left over a million homeless. The tragedy was caused by a combination of heavy rainfall and the breach of the Alau Dam, located just outside the city.

The Federal Government has declared Monday, September 16th, 2024, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on Friday. This day offers an opportunity for reflection and celebration across the country.
