Tamar Foundation Distributes ₦10 Million Worth of Healthcare Aid to Lagos Residents

Tamar Homes Foundation (THF) recently extended its free medical outreach to over 1,500 residents of the Ikota area in Lagos, providing medications and food items valued at ₦10 million. This initiative was carried out to celebrate Christmas and aimed to bring relief and support to the community during the festive season.

The event, held at Ikota Primary School, saw a diverse turnout, with attendees coming from various parts of Lagos, including Surulere and Lafayette. The foundation offered a range of essential services, such as free medical consultations, medications for common health conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and malaria, and free food items, both cooked and uncooked.

This large-scale outreach was met with positive feedback from both the beneficiaries and community leaders, who were grateful for the initiative. Residents expressed their appreciation and hoped for the chance to contribute similarly in the future.

Mrs Musunmola Shukura Sulaiman, the CDA chairman of the Ikota Orile Community, commended the Tamar Homes Foundation for the scale and impact of the event. She praised the foundation for its effort to address healthcare inequalities and bring joy to the community.

The CDA also acknowledged the contributions of other organisations but emphasised the exceptional impact of THF’s outreach, noting that it had made a significant difference in the lives of thousands of Lagosians.

Olajumoke Rhema, the Chief Executive Officer of THF, emphasised the importance of early disease detection and timely intervention in addressing health issues. She explained that the event was part of the foundation’s broader mission to reduce healthcare disparities and foster well-being in underserved communities, especially during the festive season.

By offering healthcare services and food, THF aimed to alleviate some of the burdens of vulnerable community members. The foundation also highlighted the benefit of hosting the event in Ikota, an enclosed community environment that facilitated better crowd control and allowed for a smooth operation.

The setting contributed to the success of the outreach, ensuring that the services were delivered effectively and safely to all attendees. THF used this opportunity to encourage other organisations to engage in community welfare initiatives, emphasising that even small contributions can have a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need.

Despite the considerable investment in the event, THF expressed that the high turnout and the positive response from the community humbled it. While the foundation could have spent even more, it remains committed to expanding this initiative in the coming years, hoping to reach more individuals and make an even more significant impact in the future.
