Samuel Nwajagu, a 23-year-old model from Nigeria, has made history by becoming the first African to win the prestigious Mister International title.
The event, held in Bangkok, Thailand, featured 48 contestants from around the globe, marking one of the largest competitions in the pageant’s history.
Nwajagu, who is also a University of Port Harcourt undergraduate, stood out with his charm, confidence, and exemplary performance, clinching the Best Swimwear award during the competition. He succeeded Thailand’s Kim Thitisan Goodburn, the previous titleholder, and surpassed tough competitors, including Nguyễn Mạnh Lân of Vietnam, the first runner-up, and Glenn Victor Sutanto of Indonesia, the second runner-up.
The 2024 Mister International pageant was unique, breaking barriers by allowing fathers, married men, and divorced individuals to participate for the first time. This shift demonstrated the pageant’s commitment to inclusivity and the evolving definition of modern masculinity.
Nwajagu’s journey to the global stage began earlier in June when he won the Mister of Nigeria title in a high-profile event at the Lagos Oriental Hotel.
The Mister International competition, established in 2006, is renowned for celebrating male beauty, talent, and cultural exchange. Participants engage in various challenges, including fashion presentations, public speaking, and advocacy for social causes. Winners gain opportunities to collaborate with global brands and participate in philanthropic initiatives worldwide.
As the new Mister International, Nwajagu will embark on a year of global travel, participating in events that promote cultural unity and charitable efforts. His win serves as a turning point for African representation in male pageantry, inspiring young men across the continent to pursue their dreams on international platforms.
This victory not only brings pride to Nigeria but also paves the way for greater recognition of African excellence in global arenas.
