Katsina Begins Planting Trees to Solve Climate Change

A week ago saw the commencement of a tree-planting program in Daura by Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, a significant development in the state’s battle against climate change.

With the help of the Ahmed Usman Pure Life Foundation and the Katsina State Agro-climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape project, 3,000 tree seedlings will be distributed to Daura as part of a nationwide program.

Prominent state officials, such as Abdullahi Garba Faskari, Secretary to the State Government and Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahya was in attendance at the event, which took place in Kangiwa Square in the state’s Daura Local Government Area.

Radda made an announcement that 1,000 elementary school students would each get a tree seedling and 5,000 naira to help them grow the trees.

He emphasised that the yearly tree-planting drive is an integral aspect of Katsina State’s plan to combat climate change. By getting the kids involved and providing them with everything they need to keep these trees healthy, they are investing in the environment and in the generations to come.

Local Units Interested in Planting Trees
The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Faruk, thanked the event’s organisers for selecting Daura as the launch site and stressed the significance of tree planting in halting the spread of desertification during his speech.

The Emir urged the populace to plant trees and take an active role in caring for them. In addition, Muntari Kado, the Permanent Secretary, spoke on behalf of the State Commissioner of Environment, Hamza Faskari, who stated that the ministry had grown and dispersed more than 3,000 tree seedlings throughout the state and that strict monitoring would be kept up until at least 80% of the trees planted mature.

He explained that the tree-planting campaign was an effort by the Katsina State Government to encourage sustainable growth and environmental preservation, with the hope that it would serve as an example to other states battling climate change.
