Self Defense: Indigenes Protect Villages Against Banditry Operation

Security has been a threat over the years in Nigeria and it has remained paramount with its persistent negative effect on several sectors of the nation. However, it became fierce when deadly bomb suicide missions were all over. These activities were fueled by the deadly Islamic sect virally known as “BokoHaram”.

This group was actively into killings, kidnapping, and bombings of well-populated gatherings like weddings, Churches, motor parks, Mosques, Markets, and any government-created infrastructures.

Since its emergence, its activities have tilted the national image of the country with a drastic drag to a poor economy due to abducting investors and stakeholders, as they were been kidnapped for ransom. Citizens who find themselves in communities where the killings were carried out had their fathers, mothers, children, and other members of their families killed or kidnapped. Their female children were abducted and raped and also forcefully converted into sex slaves to the deadly group as in the case of the over 270 school children taken away from Chibok, Borno State-Nigeria.

Recent Action By Indigenes

Following the kidnap and killing of the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in Sokoto State, Nigeria, on the 27th of July 2024, reactions by indigenes of the communities became furious about the rising situation of these life-threatening acts. These residents comprising men and women, embarked on a bold mission to ransack surrounding forests with the rescue of the remaining 150 abducted persons. They also made it a double as not only rescuing but also recovering the remains of Isa Mohammed Bawa, the murdered district head. At first, reactions were not triggered but indigenes were left with no option but to take the law into their own hands as a self-defense strategy since bandits were persistently invading their place of abode, and the State and Federal Governments were turning deaf ears to all the inhuman acts of the kidnappers.

A few days after these bold steps were taken by the communities, the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Musa, with the directives of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle decided to visit the four North-Western states with outrageous bandit activities (Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi States) with the plan to tackle the pressing issue of kidnapping and Murder.

The presence of Headquarters, 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto that oversees the Four North-Western States will be up and active to help with the curbing of the matter.
With this action, it is expediently expected that the rise of banditry in these regions be truncated.

Now the burning questions in the heart of many peace-loving, and enthusiastic Nigerians are.

  • – When will the Kidnappings and Killings come to an end?
    – When do we return to the good old days of the lovely Nigeria?
    – Who will be the Saving Hero to help end the bad State of Security?
    – When will indigenes return home to their indigent settlement?
    – When will the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have a normal life again?

These rhetorical questions await swift solutions with the deployment of intelligent techniques and also with having security experts occupy the right positions.
