It’s almost the end of the year, no pressure. It hasn’t been an easy year and we all deserve a vacation. But it doesn’t mean we have to stop pushing to reach our goals and aim for more. It’s best to start out early, set a date and time convenient for your planning and reviewing. As much as goal setting has become a tradition, don’t let it become a past time activity, be intentional about it. Let’s help you review your year and set out for the next with a road map, shall we?
First, Chill, Take your time to relax and pat yourself on the back for how good you’ve done this past months. Nigeria has been a heavy toll on our backs while we try to balance every other thing in our lives.
-Be grateful: For how far you have come, be gentle on yourself, tick off the first thing on the list as you overcoming every hurdle you have faced. Be thankful for the little wins, tasks, opportunities and courses you finished, how much you pushed to be a better version of yourself. So, what are the top five things you are grateful for?
-Look at your goals: Take a look at your goals, how much you’ve been able to accomplish, things you ticked off your bucket list, progresses made. Even if it does not look like much, give yourself grace to try again the coming year, beating yourself up will not get you anywhere.
-Reward: Give yourself a reward for the things you’ve done, the goals you have crossed off the list, write yourselves a thank-you/well done letter, get yourself your favourite snack, a movie, a journal. Don’t let one win stop you from aiming for more but still learn to celebrate every little win as the days go by.
-Review: Take time to reflect and review your goals for this year, if there are still goals you would like to continue in the new year, let them cross over with you then. Review what you could have done better and implement them into the new year, set systems, boundaries, time frames, and specific dates, Set them SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time Bound).
-Process: Accept all that has happened, work on what needs to be done better, find a way not a reason to stop growing. Declutter your mental space, process what your dream year would look like and start penning from there. Know all the habits you need to let go i.e procrastination.
-Find A WHY: As you begin to pen down your goals add a WHY to keep you fueled up for the race, forget fuel price keep pushing. Find accountability, join a growth group, find yourself a mentorship circle that prioritizes helping you become a better version of yourself.
Get all the resources you need to build a working progress system for yourself while the new year energy is still on fire, grab vision boards, productivity journals, sticky notes, a highly goal oriented friend. Like Nike says, “Just do it” and do it now not tomorrow.
