There are a lot of youngsters visiting this blog, and I believe sharing this post here will be a good idea. It includes list of many things that you should do in your 20’s to have a good post 20 life. I believe this will inspire and change people’s thinking, doing, or tasks.
Minimize Debt
This is one of the biggest items in your to-do list. Debt is like a virus eating your soul up every day. It won’t let you think of anything productive. You need to cure the debt virus or risk death before thirty. If you are someone that spend money on liabilities such as cars, clothes, and latest iphones, you better be debt free.
Change Your Friends
There is a saying that show me your friends and I will tell you who you are. Friends matters a lot when you are in your twenties. You are in a stage you need to make vital decisions. You need to surround yourself with like-minded individuals. You should upgrade your social circle as you move on. Cut off that friend that is pulling you down even if you’ve known him for over 15 years.
Your friends matters a lot. Your friends are who your kids will call Big Daddy. Will you want a drug addict or a no ambition man to be called Big Daddy. Your life is too short to spend catching falling knives.
Learn to Help Others
You rise by helping others rise. This sounds contradictory to point number two, however it is important that you learn to help those that wish to improve.
The keyword here is improving. If you attempt to convince a man of self-improvement when he does not care, you’ll burn a bridge. Share helpful information with that person interested in self improvement and you will find your friend count increasing.
Build a strong foundation
Everyone else goes to college to drink and try to sleep with hundreds of women. (Bad guys & gals). They try to live the life of a playboy in university without regards for the future. These guys usually end up unemployed or making smaller income at a soul-crushing job with no skill set to jump into another industry. Their entire life is dependent on their employer. Build a foundation now so you can have fun in your spare time.
Get Internships
Work experience matters a lot and you can easily get that from internships. Internships also offers connections to like minded individuals that you can call new friends.
Even if you have a 5.0 GPA from a top university, no one will care if you have zero work experience or skill. The world is moving towards a skill based system now and you can acquire that from many internships either online or offline.
Find Mentors
By the time you are in your late twenties, you should have a handful of people to speak to regarding life decisions. These are your mentors and they will be older than you. They would have passed through your stage and know what it entails.
Your Co-Workers Will Screw You
This is what most people fail to realise. They think their co-workers have their best interest in mind. This is entirely wrong. None of your co-workers are out for your best interests. You have to be careful how you relate with your co-workers.
Read Books Daily
You are what you read and you are not better than the last book you read. This is why you need to cultivate a reading habit. Read books that talk about growth, culture, art, fashion, science and many more. Broaden your mind and see yourself grow beyond imagination. Learn more about others.
Reading is similar to investing in yourself as the payoff is far in the future. One day, you’ll have a chance to make a connection with a someone higher up on an obscure topic and ideally you’ll have the ability to add to the conversation. Don’t forget that wealthy men and women are typically eccentric.
Learn About Basic Fashion
Start learning about basic fashion. Learn how to dress simple and look good. Learn what colors work for your skin tone, eye color and hair color. Once this is mastered find the right brands to accentuate all of your positive features and build a sustainable wardrobe.
Exercise
Health is wealth. Your health is the only thing that will outweigh your aspirations for wealth. A man who has a healthy mind and body with a heavy wallet is free. There is nothing more valuable than complete freedom to do as you wish. A healthy mind will bring forth a wealthy wallet.
Stop Procrastination
If you find yourself procrastinating on tasks it means that you have nothing to do with your free time. Cut down the hours spent on social media and do something better with your life. Stop Procrastinating all the time. In an ideal situation, you are constantly moving and improving your life. You don’t have time to procrastinate because you’re too busy taking action.
Ignore the Lazy ones
These are the people you should cut away. They will suggest you simply relax and live in the moment that everything will work itself out. Avoid these people like the plague. You should live in the moment for a calculated risk not to simply feel good for a short period of time at the detriment of your future. Much like investing, 20 years from now they will have a hard time getting by while your life is already on automatic control because you’ve built an unbreakable foundation.
Don’t Get Married yet
No matter what you do, do not tie the knot in your 20′s. If you’re doing some basic tasks in your 20’s like studying as you wished to get it that stage, wished to complete your dreams or any wish you have made to let it done if you have that enough resources.
The truth is that many women/men in their twenties are most attracted to men in their low thirties. Run the math yourself. They want someone comfortable that is on cruise control. You are still sorting your future and don’t want any disturbance. Your future wife is still in high school right now, so don’t fret over anyone within earshot for a long-term relationship.
I recommend not getting married at this age.
Go International
By the time you’re in your mid 20′s you should have some international exposure that will wreck a lot of your current beliefs. This can be from the books you have read, the friends you have, or the mentors.
By experiencing a new culture you’ll quickly see how many of your ideas are based on a different cultural phenomenon. Your confidence level will grow by leaps and bounds.
Face a Major Fear
Do you fear snakes, fights, heights, or darkness? This is the time to face them. You should get a snake as pet now or get into a bar fight, or go bungee jumping.
There is no substitute for repeated exposure to eliminate a major fear in your life.
Turn Family Into Friends:
For many people, your family members are dragging you down and for others, they are positive in your life. The key is to separate your life decisions from their opinions.
Their opinions is theirs and should have no weight on your emotions. At this point, you should not use your family as a safe haven in life. If you lose your job, if you want to move cities, if you want to take a risk, it is on your shoulders. Remove the safety net.
Stop Complaining
Take responsibilities and stop complaining. It won’t get you anywhere. You invested in a wrong stock or lost a bet. Just take your lessons and move on.
Maybe you didn’t land that Google job, maybe you didn’t your blog didn’t get first page rank in google, no one cares. By the time you’re well into your 20′s your interest in complaining should be zero. Complaining gets you nowhere. All it does is increase your stress levels. When you are stressed out, no one wants to be your friend. If no one wants to be your friend, your contact list is not improving and if your contact list is not improving…. you’re dead and gone.
Wake Up Early
Cultivate this habit of waking up early. You are not yet a multimillionaire. You should wake up early to get ahead of the rest. Read, go to the weight room, build a website, it does not matter. Your brain functions well in the morning, use your most productive time to invest in the most important person in the world which is yourself and your future.
Earn a Voice
Many twenties individual will destroy their careers in a few short years by never earning a voice. When you are in your twenties there is not a single person who will care about your world view so it is best to remain quiet and diligently improve while waiting for an opportunity. Instead of dishing out advice at this period, take advice , read, research more, and remain quiet. As soon as people begin asking you for your contributions you’re official of value. You have earned your voice in a specific niche.
Fail
The last piece of the puzzle is the most obvious and the most undervalued. Fail as many times as possible in your twenties while you have the time to recover. You better fail now than fail in your 70’s when you can’t recover. Fail at trying to create a value. Try to create a web application, Try to play keyboard, Try to play tennis, Try to speak a foreign language and many more. Try everything, fail and recover again.
Assuming you follow these rules, you’ll look back on your life when you hit thirty and know, not believe, you have done everything to make your life better. If anyone attempts to say you’ve worked too hard, write them off like whiny complainers who have to live with the knowledge that they could have been better.
Read this and digest. Implement them and have a better 30.
