UEFA Champions League
Juventus vs Manchester City: Manchester City again failed to show any form of solidity and brilliance as they suffer another defeat in an away UEFA Champions League fixture during the week. The current state of the Citizens now cuts across different competitions including the English Premier League and the wearisomeness drives football lovers mad. Although the management of the team is still silent on this pressing issue, Pep who was booed by Liverpool’s fans responded with his 6 fingers, informing them about his achievements and record so far in the English football Club.
Atalanta Vs Real Madrid: Atalanta lost to Real Madrid in a crucial fixture during the week of the group matches played in the UEFA European Champions League. The match was really crucial for the Galacticos as they needed a win to stay above the danger zone of the League table. The thrilling performances from Vinicious Jr who just returned from injury, Kylian Mbappe, and Jude Bellingham proved rewarding for Real Madrid who will now battle it out in the play-offs of the League.
Atalanta also performed excellently as missed chances, if utilized well, would have earned them a draw or a win over Real Madrid. Meanwhile goalscorer Ademola Lookman was awarded the Player of the Match, for his outstanding performance in that game.
Girona vs Liverpool: Thanks to the penalty spot kick goal by Mohammed Salah that saw the Reds narrowly claim all three points against the Spanish football club (Girona).
Girona who were whipped 3-0 by the Galacticos in the Spanish Laliga still lost to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League during the week.
The 1-0 Liverpool’s win now has them stay top of the Champions League table with 18 points, and ready for the round of 16 moments in the top-rated European club competition.
UEFA Europa League
Fenerbahce vs Athletic Bilbao: Jose Mourinho’s men were humbled by Atletico Madrid in this week’s Europa League fixture at home. Ghanaian international Inaki Williams got a brace to humiliate Fenerbahce in that game.
After the 2 nil defeat at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, the Yellow Canaries will battle Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish Super league on Sunday 15th December 2024.
Ajax vs Lazio: Lazio was just too strong for Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Europa League that went down on Thursday 12th December 2024. Lazio had the only goal in the first half after an assist from Pedro Rodríguez Ledesma made Luom Tchaouna score in the 12th minute.
Ajax had à comeback in the 47th minute of the game, but two responses from Lazio in the 57th and 77th minutes made the fixture sour for the Dutch side.
EPL Monthly Award
Best Goalie’s Save
Manchester United goalie, Andre Onana has won the Best save of the month award for November 2024, making it the second time after claiming the same award in the month of September. This award was as a result of his mind blowing save while on duty against Ipswich Town. After the votes from fans and critical scrutiny from experts, Onana edged Jordan Pickford of Everton football club,
Nick Pope of Newcastle football club, Robert Sanchez of Brighton and Hove Albion, and Aaron Ramsdale of Southampton to claim the award.
Best Player of the Month
Egyptian international Mohammed Salah is just one award away from breaking the 7th time record of former Manchester City pointman Sergio Leonel Agüero del Castillo (Aguero), and former Tothenham Hotspur Striker Harry Edward Kane (presently in Bayern Munich), as EA player of the month award. Salah’s dogged and exceptional performances for the month include the winning goal against Brighton and Hove Albion that ended 2-1, the 3-2 magical win over Southampton, and his significant contribution in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa all in the month of November. The 31 year old now has 6 of this award just like former Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, and former Liverpool legend Stephen Gerrard.
Coach of the Month
Arne Slot, Liverpool’s coach, has been awarded Barclays manager of the month. This was the first for the Dutchman after succeeding Jurgen Klopp at the start of the 2024/2025 season.
It was a merit as his team was the only team that won all their EPL fixtures in the month of September, and as at the end of the month they were 8 points clear at the top of the EPL table.
Guinness Goal of the Month
Welsh international and Fulham’s player, Harry wilson has won the English Premier League November 2024’s Guinness goal of the month Award. This award came as a result of his spectacular goal scored against Brentford in the month of September.
