Following the sack of some Ministers of a few Ministries by the Federal Government as announced by the Nigerian Presidency sometime in November 2024, Kano, “The Center of Commerce”, has taken a likewise step to re-strategize, rebuild, and realign for immediate conformance with smooth service to the State.
This Decision was taken by Gov. Abba Yusuf, and the announcement was made some hours back.
The 2023 governor-elect of the state who came to power through the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), had to take this decision as a yearning desire for optimal results.
Though the highly commercial State which drives massive economic growth had recently counted a few setbacks during the #EndBadGovernance Protest resulting in lootings of supermarkets, and damage to key infrastructural facilities, the Governor is keenly fastened to progress irrespective of the happenings.
The list of commissioners who were relieved of their positions includes:
Ibrahim Jibril Fagge- Commissioner of Finance
Abbas Sani Abbas- Commissioner for Rural and Community Development
Shehu Aliyu Yammedi- Commissioner for Special Duties
Baba Haliru Dantiye- Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs
Ladidi Ibrahim Garko- Commissioner for Culture and Tourism
In addition, Secretary to the State Governor (SSG) Abdullahi Baffa Bichi was relieved following a health complication, while Shehu Wada Sagagi is to report to the Statehouse/Governor’s office for a reassignment of position.
Reassignments were massive, as quite a number were made. The list of reassigned positions includes Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam (current Deputy Governor), who will occupy the Ministry of Higher Education as he was previously occupying the Ministry of Local Government. Honorable Mohammed Tajo Usman, who formerly occupied the office of the Ministry of Science and Technology, will now function in the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Others include Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar-Mata, from the Ministry of Higher Education to the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Hon. Amina from the Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation to the Ministry for Women, Children, and Disabled, Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo moved from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to the Ministry of Special Duties, Hon. Ibrahim Namadi from Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation to Ministry of Transport, and Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa was moved from Ministry of Education to Ministry of Water Resources.
Still, on the list of reassigning, Hon. Ali Haruna Makoda moved from the Ministry of Water Resources to the Ministry of Education, Hon. Aisha Lawal Saji moved from the Ministry of Women, Children and Diabled to the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, and Hon. Mohammed Diggol moved from the Ministry of Transport to the Ministry of Project Monitoring and Evaluation.
Governor Abba Yusuf made a statement following the sudden cabinet reshuffling. He addressed everyone by saying:
“ The reshuffle of the state executive council is to effect the pragmatic political realignment of the administration and enable optimum performance that will drive more dividends of democracy of the people of Kano State”
As rightly said by the Governor, the movement of the former Commissioner from various offices to the latter, and the sack decisions are tailored towards the positive impact of the people of the State.
