Bringing Back RayGun: Life Lessons from The Olympics Australian B-Girl

In the 2024 Summer Paris Olympics, Rachael Louise Gunn popularly known as RayGun became an internet sensation and meme over her break dance performance at the Olympics. RayGun who is also a professor of cultural studies and a breakdancer trained by her partner, Samuel Free got the opportunity to represent Australia and then though her dance routine faced ridicule and backlashes, her act and art are probably a lessons we could learn from, just like the Turkish Olympics shooter. Here are a few things we can learn from RayGun.

Be Bold
Boldness means to be fearless and confident. With the boldness RayGun brought to the stage, you should watch her often to get the motivation you need for things that frighten you. With great boldness, come greater achievement. Even with the online backlash she received, her Instagram following went from 4,000 to more than 200,000 and she was subsequently signed by Born Bred Talent agency.

Accept Your Uniqueness
“Don’t be afraid to be different, go out there and represent yourself, you never know where that’s gonna take you” – RayGun.
There you have it, know that you will always have your different views and ways around things including art, writing, finding your style and expressing yourself. People might think differently about the things you do, but find your uniqueness in this world and break out of the norm.
“In a world full of copies, be original”-Austin Kleon.

Believe In Yourself
When you have courage to believe in yourself, you can do almost anything. Your Belief in yourself fuels boldness, have faith in your abilities. RayGun might have lost the Olympics but her believe in her abilities have moved her the number one spot on the World DanceSport Federation list. You just need to remind yourself that you can do it. Like the famous quote by Marianne Williamsom “Your deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear fear is that we are powerful beyond measure”.

Embrace Rejection
In a world were successes are most cheered, rejection still lurks around. It is high time we begin to see rejection as a lesson to learn from and begin to do better. We win some and we learn from the rest. If we always won, we would never really know where to improve. Be open, seek knowledge, seek growth always.

RayGun might not be the spectacular motivational success story we learn from everyday but every person has a lesson to share, so do you, in your flaws, your imperfections, your falls, your fails, your wins and your ways. You inspire people regardless. Find passion in what you do, know why you do it, be unapologetically proud of your craft and art, you’ll find your uniqueness along the way as you embrace the voices that come along whether negative or positive.
