This Friday morning, November 1, 2024, the Federal High Court in Abuja was filled with over 70 people who participated in the #EndBadGoverment protest which was held in August, including 32 minors who have reportedly been malnourished and mistreated in the cells where they were held.
Images of these boys crying and collapsing on the courtroom floor have gripped the hearts of Nigerians, quickly spreading across social media.
The detention of the teenagers was ordered by Justice Emeka Nwite, who granted the permission to the police to keep them in custody for 60 days to conclude their investigation against the protesters, who are accused of attempting to overthrow the President on seat.
According to Sahara Reporters, “The Network of Abuja Left Groups on Thursday called for the immediate and unconditional release of 76 protesters, including 32 minors, who were arrested during the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations in August.”
While we wander with the continuous high cost of living, we are left wondering if we are truly in safe hands in the current state of affairs.
