Weekly Sports Round-Up: Episode 3

During the week, qualifying matches and other exciting actions went down. The UEFA Nations League, the CAF African Cup of Nations Qualifiers, the Asian World Championship Qualifiers, and the South-American Championship Qualifiers.

Niger Vs Ghana: On neutral ground, the Black Stars of Ghana played a nations cup qualifying match against the Mena of Niger Republic. The match was played on Monday 9th of September, 2024, at the Stade Municipal de Berkane, Morrocco. Even though Ghana played well, and dominated the game with a 61% ball possession, and a total of 488 passes, the Nigeriens had the most shot on goal that had them give the Black Stars a good fight. Westham Football Club’s frontman Mohammed Kudus provided an assist that saw Seidu put Ghana ahead in the 44th minute. The Menas played well, and with the highest number of shots coming from them, they were too rigid to succumb to a defeat and got an equalizer in the 81st-minute courtesy of a goal from Sako.

France Vs Belgium: France got a convincing win over Belgium in the UEFA Nations League that was played on September 9th, 2024. After suffering a humiliating 3-1 defeat from Italy in the previous encounter, the Les Bleus made things right against the Belgians. Randal Kolo Muani opened the scoreline in the 29th minute after receiving an assist from Ousmane Dembele, and Dembele doubled the lead in the 57th minute as former Chelsea man Ngolo Kante gave an assist. This win sparked a bounceback for the French.

Paraguay Vs Brazil: A lone goal from the Paraguayans in the Estadio Defensores del Chaco Stadium was just enough to cause a painful defeat for Brazil on the 11th of September. A 20th-minute goal from Diego Gomez was the only goal netted in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualification match.
Statistics showed that Paraguay got 15 Shots on goal, out of which 6 were on target, a 45% possession on the ball, and 12 committed fouls, while Brazil had 17 shots on goal, 6 on target, 55% ball possession, and 13 fouls.

b The morah was on the top-most level for the Rwandan National Football Team as they held the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a goalless draw on September 10th. The crowd was cheering in full support and Rwandan President Paul Kagame also took out time to show his support for the ah-ma-VOO-dees. The pressure from the Nigerians saw a goal that was scored by Ballon d’ or Nominee Ademola Lookman but was disallowed by the center referee. Reactions were all over as many fans were unhappy with the referee’s decision to rule out the goal, calling the decision unprofessional and uncalled for.

Formula 1 Racing: George Russell had the fastest lap time of one hour, 42 minutes, 52 seconds (1:42:51) which saw him ahead of Charles Leclerc with 0.013 seconds. This is the final practice for the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix competition. The complaint of what Russell called a terrible ride and a possible engine deficiency was not strong enough to nullify his success in the practice.
