How to Modify Your NIN Details Online


The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has unveiled the Self-Service Modifications portal. This online portal allows you to modify your NIN (National Identification Number) name, phone number and date of birth easily on your mobile device right from the comfort of your home, with zero stress.

Before we proceed, here are the details you can change on the portal and the price for each of them:

  • NIN Change of Name: 1522.5 Naira
    NIN Change Of Address: 1522.5 Naira
    NIN Change Of Phone Number: 1522.5 Naira
    NIN Change Of Date Of Birth: 16340 Naira

Modifying Your Date of Birth

To modify your date of birth, you would need your Digitised NPC Attestation Certificate, if you were born before 1992.
If you were born after 1992, then you would need your NPC Birth Certificate.

Once you have the above handy, you can then proceed to update the date of birth linked to your NIN in the following five simple steps:

1. Log In and Select Date of Birth Modification
Begin by verifying your NIN, logging into your account, and choosing the date of birth modification option from your dashboard.

2. Make Payment
Complete the required payment securely via Paystack.

3. Validate NPC Certificate
Enter your NPC certificate number to automatically populate your date of birth, which will be locked from further editing. If you’ve misplaced your birth certificate, you can perform a birth attestation online at the National Population Commission’s website.

4. Upload Documents
Upload your NPC certificate along with any necessary supporting documents, then review and submit your modification request.

5. Receive Updated NIN Slip
Once approved, you’ll receive a notification, and your updated NIN slip will be sent to your email. You can also print it directly from your dashboard.

Modifying Your Name

Note that after three name changes, any further modifications must be done at a NIMC enrolment center.

To change your name online, ensure you have the following:

  • A valid court affidavit.
    A government-issued ID showing your full name.
    For name changes due to marriage, additionally, you will need:
    A valid marriage certificate.
    A newspaper announcement that reflects the name change

Modifying Your Address

To change your address, you will need your:

  • Utility bill
    Tenancy agreement
    Community leader’s attestation letter
